5.0 out of 5 stars The exterminator was using this!! This stuff is the best to use for controlling and eradicating flea infestations! Virbac is safe as long as it has had time to dry. It’s supposed to last for something like seven months, but I’d recommend spraying more often to control major infestations. Here’s my long-winded story.Eight years ago we cat-sat a couple of worthless kittens which we didn’t realize were flea-ridden until it was too late. We did have a cat already, but he was restricted to indoor living. Fortunately, it was just the unfinished basement which became infested. Our vet recommended using Virbac Knockout as the safest and most effective product on the market. Well, we thought we’d go the professional route because we were going to take the situation seriously, so we hired an exterminator. Imagine our astonishment and indignation when he came up from the basement, announcing he was done spraying and holding a can of Virbac!! We ended up getting charged $120 for something we could have done with an $18 can (the price at the time).Since then we adopted a very wonderful cat. Though we do use Frontline, the cats went outdoors and in the summer months would occasionally bring in a few fleas as a result of hunting expeditions or hanging out with the riff raff in the neighborhood. I’d spray Virbac in the room I found the flea and usually the flea problem would end right then and there.Unfortunately we just recently underwent a bad infestation. This past summer I started using a different product, Pet Advantage, for flea protection on the cats. I usually buy Frontline from Sam’s Club, but they quit selling the stuff in the pet section, and all I found was the Pet Advantage and thought, what the heck, it has the same ingredients. BIG mistake. (I found out later that the Frontline had been moved to the cigarette section due to a rash of thefts, and all I could find was the cursed Pet Advantage). My first cat ended up dying a while ago, and we had adopted a kitten, which was more than likely Patient Zero of our current epidemic (he had a significant amount of flea dirt on him while my older cat had none). I stupidly did not bathe him for a while after getting him–just used pet cleaning wipes. A few months later, we started discovering a flea or two. My husband went ahead and got an exterminator in to bomb the entire house. We turned up the heat to hatch everything before the bombing, but to no avail. The fleas got frighteningly worse, since they all hatched, but were seemingly unaffected by the exterminator’s efforts. Crazy thing, they got attracted to the bathroom nightlight, and one morning we found around 50 doing a lively jig on the tile. I combed through the kitties with a flea comb and found around 60 fleas on each cat! At that point I consulted the vet, to find out that not all topical flea treatments are alike, the differ in the stuff used to spread the ant-flea chemicals. Got the cats on Frontline Gold, and sprayed the carpet with Virbac. Within one day, the activity died down significantly. We were finding dozens of dead fleas in the bathroom afterwards. However, due to thir life cycle and resiliency fleas tend to recur after making an appearance in the home. I had to spray again after 2 weeks, and with the cats are still picking up a few fleas occasionally, I finally started spraying the wood and tile–usually I only had to spray the carpeted areas. Wow–this stuff gets rid of them fast!So lesson learned: use Frontline always, wash any new members of your kitty-fold immediately upon arrival, and use Virbac Knockout!

We have multiple indoor cats, and after years of no major issues, suddenly we had FLEAS, like jumping on you walking in the door fleas, and the cats were scratching themselves silly. Our cats go onto a screened in porch at will, but don’t go out in the yard, and we’d never seen this happen. Still don’t know what caused the explosion, all we wanted was to kill the fleas…If this happens to you, don’t despair. THIS. STUFF. WORKS.Fleacide Battle Plan:1. Vacuum the heck out of your house, and immediately remove vac bag or empty bagless bin to outside trash. Not only are you not going to vacuum for awhile after, but vacuuming before will remove some of the fleas.2. Plan on doing your house in 2 sections, unless you have somewhere offsite to keep your animals for hours.3. Remove all critters to a second area to be treated. We actually taped around the door, stuffed bags under the door, closed the A/C vent to that room and opened the windows to keep the stuff out of there. It may have been a bit much, but it made it us feel safer for them. To me, this stuff is one step below fogging and you would not do that with anything alive in the house.4. Follow the spraying directions, ending with you at a door with your keys to leave the area for awhile. Make sure you get furniture surfaces and under it, and all hard floors and good on the baseboard cracks. I used gloves, an N95 mask and goggles to make sure it did not get inhaled or absorb in eyes. It says right on the can not to let humans or animals contact while wet. We waited a couple hours and when we returned, it was dry. No odor, not sticky anywhere. We went into the room where the cats were, treated all with Revolution (captive audience, lol), and turned them loose in the house. Then we did the last room and closed it up to dry with windows open and taped door/bags under. A couple more hours and it was done.Observations:1. The can says it covers 2100 square feet. Well… maybe it does, and maybe we were heavy-handed on spraying, but we used 2 cans on about 1500 sq feet. Don’t forget to count furniture surface sq ft. We did not want to have to do this twice.2. We did have to do it twice. Not really, just the kitchen/dining area again, around the baseboard/cracks (hence the hard floor/baseboard warning above). Evidently we didn’t get those areas hit hard enough on round 1.3. Plan on this being an all day affair. Between prepping and spraying X2 and moving and treating animals and waiting, it was pretty much all day. Round 2 of the hard floor baseboards was much shorter, though. Although the can says you can vacuum after it’s dry, we waited several days. We really wanted to make sure all fleas were dead.4. Did it kill the fleas immediately? A lot of them! Guesstimating 75-80% that day, into the next day. The cats were much happier by the next day, as well. I would say within a few days, there was not a live flea to be seen anywhere, including on the cats. We knew we got the baseboards well when we found dead fleas on the tile by the baseboards, where they had come out from hiding and died. You may see the animals continue to scratch for awhile – even if the fleas are gone, the bites they have will itch for days…5. Does it last? YES. We have not sprayed again, but have been keeping Revolution on the cats, and have not seen fleas in almost 7 months, nor any kitty scratching. They have been absolutely fine. In fact, the reason I came back to Amazon was to get the link for a friend of a family member, who is going through a flea explosion. I realized it has been almost 7 months… And ordered more! I don’t ever want to worry about it again.Bottom line – if you have a fleafest going on, this works. Definitely plan to spend a good day into a weekend doing this, and plan to treat the animal(s) as well, with Revolution or your favorite flea treatment safe for them (not this!). Make sure you have enough to treat furniture and all floor surfaces and baseboards/cracks. Protect all living things from the spray and wet product and get those $%&*#) fleas!

5.0 out of 5 stars YOU HAVE TO GET THIS! If you have a flea infestation, you NEED to get this. We tried nearly EVERYTHING for our flea problem and this is the only thing that worked.Our German Shepherd brought fleas into our home during the late summer. I didn’t even realize the poor thing had fleas until I was scratching her one day and noticed a bite on her leg. I rolled her over to inspect her body and saw two fleas on her stomach. I let my husband know and after discussing it, we decided to try and treat the house with what we had. After all, it wasn’t THAT bad. I had only found maybe ten on her, so we don’t need to do much to get rid of them, right? WRONG!We used 91% rubbing alcohol in a bottle with a few drops of dish soap and sprayed down the entire house—every crack and crevice. We vacuumed thoroughly and I combed out our dog with a flea comb everyday. We used Eucalyptus, Lemongrass, and Cedarwood oil on her. Honestly, all of those things were STUPID ideas because they DIDN’T WORK AT ALL. In fact, it seemed like it made the problem worse!So, once the “natural” remedies failed, we picked up a flea carpet powder and bed bug spray. The bed bug spray was recommended for flea problems by the lady who worked at our local hardware store. We sprayed down the entire house and endured this HORRIBLE bed bug spray that made our eyes water, made us sneeze like crazy, and generally made us feel like we had insane allergies DESPITE properly ventilating and wearing masks. So, after all of that nonsense, we waited. The next day? Fleas. Everywhere. THANKS FOR NOTHING, HARDWARE STORE LADY!After that didn’t work, we vowed to do thorough research on what we needed to get rid of these pesky little suckers. Not even a week later, we finally decided on Virbac. By then, the flea infestation had gotten SO much worse. I never realized just how fast these things reproduce and wreak havoc on your home, your pet, and your family. It was HORRIBLE, but we were absolutely DETERMINED to get rid of them.I anxiously waited for the Virbac to arrive in the mail. While waiting, my husband and I created a game plan. We would first treat the yard with Nematodes—yes, NEMATODES. We used 30 Million Live Beneficial Nematodes Hb+Sc+Sf – Kills Over 200 Different Species of Soil Dwelling and Wood Boring Insects.. Next, we would go to the vet and get a six-month supply for flea prevention for our dog. After that, I gave her an EXTREMELY THOROUGH bath. I spent at least 45 minutes in the bathroom, scrubbing every single inch of her with my fingernails. I used Dawn Dish Soap and water—that’s it. I scrubbed and scrubbed, from her neck to her tail. I put a “necklace” of dish soap around her neck to prevent any fleas from trying to escape to her dry head. I then combed out her head with the flea comb afterward. The bath was VERY tedious and I was meticulous about getting every single one of those stupid fleas. When she was finished, I dried her off and went through every inch of her coat with a flea comb.Once I was sure she was flea free, we vacuumed the house from top to bottom. After our dog dried off, we put her outside while my husband sprayed the house with Virbac. During that time, I took my children to the movies so they weren’t subjected to the chemicals in the spray. Once he finished spraying the house, he waited an hour, and vacuumed again.The next day, there were NO FLEAS. A week later, I found a few in the house, but they weren’t jumping. They were lethargic, just crawling along the carpet. The bottle does say that you may see adult fleas for up to two weeks after spraying, but to rest assured that it will NOT turn into an infestation. They were right. We just kept vacuuming to make sure and suck up any of the newly hatched fleas.After that, I never saw a flea again. Not in my carpet (even after crawling around on my hands and knees and LOOKING for these suckers—I was paranoid! I HATE FLEAS!). Not on our dog. Not in the yard. Nowhere. I am SO thankful for this product and now we know, if we see a flea, we’re getting Virbac.Quick Note: After reading through some of these reviews, I have to stress this: YOU HAVE TO TREAT EVERYTHING! You can’t just spray your house with Virbac and expect the fleas to magically disappear. They’re still going to be on your pet and they’re still going to be in your yard. These little suckers are resilient and their eggs are damn near impenetrable. Virbac works great in the home because it has an IGR and prevents reproduction. However, you still have to treat your pet(s) and your yard! Virbac will only treat your home. You need something for the yard, whether it’s nematodes, a flea spray, or a professional exterminator, and you need a flea prevention medication for your pet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product. Somehow we ended up with fleas and don’t have an animal but we were recommended this product from a vet tech. It is super easy to spray. I would say it took a few times spraying to completely get rid of the fleas. We also have kids so it was super safe for our children. Overall this product did do what it was intended to do just took a little longer than expected. I would definitely buy it again.

We had been fighting to kill off fleas that an indoor/outdoor cat had brought in not knowing until it was too late.Not an infestation but keep in mind they multiply very fast.I treated our home daily , 5000 sq.ft. upper and basement combined and put saucers under nightlights with dish soap daily.Washer after washer of bedding ,clothes etc. I used Black Flag Flea and tick sprays everywhere ,which broke the cycle and killed the adults but still they were getting on our 2 house cats.I read about this Virbac Knockout ES used it once in the basement and haven’t seen any I am very impressed with this product and recomment it if you ever are in the same circumstances we were in over a month.
