Cons:
This product is ideal for reptile and amphibian owners—such as those keeping ball pythons, hermit crabs, snakes, frogs, lizards, tortoises, and tarantulas—who need a reliable, high-humidity bedding that also helps control waste odors. It is also well-suited for plant hobbyists looking for a quality planting medium or soil amendment.
The compressed block measures 11.81 x 11.81 x 5.12 inches and weighs 10 lbs. When soaked in water, it expands into 72 quarts of loose coconut chips.
Once expanded, the individual coconut chips measure between 0.4 and 1.5 inches, with a coarse, chunky structure.
Yes, it is versatile and can also be used as a planting medium to promote strong plant growth, in potted houseplants, or as a soil amendment to aerate and retain moisture.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and economical choice for snake substrate First, make sure you do your research for what types of snake and other reptiles this type of substrate is ok for. (For example, it’s not suitable for “borrowing” species.)This stuff comes tightly vacuum sealed and packed, so it will take some soaking and breaking apart before it’s useable. I use about half of the product for a 75 gallon aquarium for an adult ball python. That much usually lasts me about 6 months because for cleaning I usually just remove handfuls of soiled substrate each month (I feed the python one very large rat each month, so that’s about how often I need to clean up, too.)This stuff does get dusty when it dries out, so be aware of that. I’d recommend for tropical reptiles to get a misting type of set up, which will keep the dust to a minimum.Be a bit cautious with how much and how often you mist the enclosure. When I first set it up, I did too much, and, as with too much moisture anywhere, I did get some mold on the substrate. That was mostly my fault, though, for overdoing it. Since I’ve dialed back how often it mists, I have not noticed mold, but the humidity level of the enclosure has stayed fairly high for the tropical ball python.I’ve never had any problems with this substrate; I recommend it for its value and relatively ease of use.Variation: Color: 10LB-1pack

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality Coir These are bigger chunks of coconut husk or coir. The chunks range from less than 1/4″ to 3/4″ in diameter. There is hardly any dust, and it arrives as a compressed and dried, flattened cube. Just add water and in about an hour, the whole brick will have expanded and is ready to use. It has no odor. Coconut coir like this is actually very good at absorbing odors. It is perfect for large tortoise pens.Variation: Color: 10LB-1pack
