5.0 out of 5 stars What I wanted and needed in a crate, plus some tips and suggestions We decided to reintroduce the crate system to our almost 4-year-old cocker spaniel after not using a crate for 3 years. He has become quite a bed hog. When we originally used his crate, he never liked it and never found it as a place of retreat or of comfort. The original crate we had was the next size up from the one I ordered (30x19x21″). I ordered this one to start anew. I did a lot of comparison shopping, and Amazon definitely had the best price coupled with Prime shipping and no tax!The Midwest 1530 iCrate had everything I wanted in construction and features. It has a single door with a latch that is very easy to open and close. The crate is also completely collapsible, making it easy to store or to transport. The tray also slides out for simple cleaning. I wanted a coated steel crate because our previous one had rusted in some areas, especially around the latch. The coating should prevent any rusting and it also makes the crate easier to clean–I use disinfecting wipes. I also like that I can attach a water bottle to the side so that my dog has access to water without using a bowl which he would inevitably spill. The 30x19x21″ crate is perfect for my dog. He is an average-sized male cocker spaniel and full-grown. He weighs about 28lbs and is about 15″ tall at his shoulder. He is 18″ tall when he sits up straight (to the top of his head). This size crate allows him ample room to turn around. It would have been nice to have a couple more inches of height so he could sit if he wanted, but he usually goes in, gets comfy, and lays down. We use the crate for bedtime and at times when we know there might be a UPS delivery (of all our Amazon goods!) or a maintenance person coming in to our apartment. I also ordered this crate pad: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D7LCRM/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It fits well (a bit small) and we add blankets for warmth and for comfort.Be sure to measure your dog’s current size or estimated full-grown size. This crate came with a divider which is perfect for training puppies. It allows you to shrink the size of the crate when your dog is smaller and then you can adjust it as he or she grows. Puppies are known to have accidents or shred beds or toys in crates that are too big for them.A crate should not be used as a punishment tool; otherwise your dog will associate it as a bad or scary place. We formerly used the crate for bedtime but we also crated our dog when we were gone. He started to associate the crate as “mom and dad are leaving me again” and hated it. Our dog is reactive and can become highly stressed and anxious easily. We now use gates to confine him to a portion of our apartment when we are gone and it is much better for him. But we did want our bed back and wanted to crate him so we could possibly take him on vacation with us.When we received the new crate, I set it at the foot of our bed for a couple days and let our dog explore it at his leisure. Then I covered it with a fleece blanket and added the crate pad plus one of his blankets, so it seemed like an inviting, cozy den. He was a little suspicious but still curious and unafraid. We would drop a couple treats into the crate to coax him in but we did not force him. Once he happily went in to get his treats, we started to put him in the crate at bedtime. The first night he whined and cried and howled (yes, howled!). It was quite a sleepless night for everyone but we stuck with it. The next night, he went in, ate his treat, and snuggled right into the pad and blankets and went to sleep. He hasn’t had any problems with the crate and will even wander in on his own to nap there occasionally (he still prefers the bed or couch). This crate has met all our needs and desires and we are so pleased with it. I’m making a fitted fleece cover that will both retain heat on colder nights and keep our dog feeling cozy. I’m also happy to report that our dog will be joining us on our beach vacation this summer since he is so good in his crate!Variation: Color: Black - Single DoorSet name: Medium (30"L)

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Useful, Affordable, Time Saving and More I ordered this kennel to house my two foster dogs who are both under 10 lbs. I bought the 30 inch with the divider, and it has been plenty big enough for them. They are both able to turn around comfortably and sprawl out on all fours if needed, and there is still a little more room. I took the divider out before I let them go in it, so I don’t know how well using that would go. I have been using this kennel for them for about 5-6 weeks now.Pros:-Arrived right on time. Important since my fosters needed a kennel to stay in fast. They are chewers and markers and soon showed that they could not stay in the room with a baby gate for long unsupervised. They quickly peed all over the bed and on the floor, and also started chewing on the wall and door frame. The kennel helps them stay out of trouble when I can’t be home or can’t watch them while they run around the house. It has prevent more damage to my walls.-Really, really great for when you can’t supervise your pets. Saved me tons of time by preventing them from marking as much or soiling bedding on my bed from them jumping on it and peeing everywhere. I don’t know why they pee on bedding, but they do. The first time they peed on my bed, I spent hours washing everything and spraying my mattress with white vinegar/water/baking soda mixture to remove stains+drying the mattress. I did not want to repeat that, so the kennel helps in those moments I can’t watch them to ensure they stay off the bed.-Easy slide single latch for quick opening. I’ve never had an issue with them getting it open.-Latch on bottom in front to hold kennel tray into place. Prevents it from sliding out during travel or use.-Easy to clean. I can wipe off accidents, dirt, or throw up easily with a cloth. Then I just spray with some vinegar and water to safely disinfect. Also dries fairly quickly.-Folds up easily for travel. Also slides well into back seat and opens back up easily in car to transport dogs in kennel. Has been extremely useful for this purpose, since again, my fosters are chewers and will chew on seat belts (potentially costing unnecessary money to repair), and their car harnesses. I actually decided to stop using harnesses for them, and just keep them in the kennel, because they kept trying to chew the harnesses off. I was concerned they would get loose in the car and be unsafe walking around unrestrained, or as the littler one likes to do, hop into my lap and down onto the floor around my feet (dangerous when driving). Using this kennel eliminated that problem and gave me peace of mind while driving. A huge beneficial factor. Not only that, but I don’t have to keep buying new harnesses because of them chewing them off. Another save of money.-Very affordable. At only $26 dollars for a $30 inch, this was a huge deciding factor in me getting this brand of kennel. For those who foster, this is a huge relief, because rehabilitating animals is not cheap.Cons:-I really only have one, and that the sharp edges in some places on the kennel. There are spots where the metal bars are welded together and they are not rounded down. This leaves sharp edges with the potential to leave cuts. I was closing the kennel one day and one of the sharp points actually gave me a little cut on my hand. Nothing major, but a little sting. I’ve heard reviews where dogs trying to nose or paw out of the kennel have gotten cut up by these sharp points. This is a very significant concern and a disappointing issue to have on an otherwise great product. The company should address this and ensure all future manufactured products have sanded down these rough points on the bars to ensure the safety of the animals and their handlers/pet parents. They could also provide information to previous customers about how to safely round off these points on products already purchased. For me it has not been a huge issue because my foster dogs don’t attempt to nose or paw the cage very much, but it was alarming when my hand was cut a little while closing the kennel one day. I recommend inspecting the entire kennel before use and safely sanding down all the sharp points, or having someone else who knows how to do it safely sand it down for you. Because of this issue, I must give 4 stars instead of 5. Otherwise very good product!Despite the rough edges, I would buy again, including in larger sizes for use with other dogs, but would look into sanding down the rough points. This has just been extremely helpful and affordable for me as a foster and saved me so much money and stress by preventing issues that can occur from animals. I would recommend.UPDATE 8/16/17I recently ordered another of this size of kennel. It’s clear they changed the texturing on the kennel pan, but I don’t mind that. I’m having a significant problem setting up and breaking down the new kennel though; the alignment seems to be off or something when I try to latch the different parts together or take them apart. We actually have to lodge a key between the parts to pry them apart without smooshing our fingers. Not sure what happened with this item compared to the first one. Never had problems setting up our first kennel like this. Not happy with the issue, but it’s an inexpensive kennel, which we like. I’m not going to dock any stars because it’s still a good deal and we like the product in general.Variation: Color: Black - Single DoorSet name: Medium (30"L)

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect little safe space for my puppy this crate has been really helpful with my puppy. It was easy to set up, feels sturdy, and gives him a safe little space where he can relax. I added a soft bed inside and now he actually goes in there on his own sometimes.Right now he’s recovering from surgery, so having a comfortable and secure area has made things a lot easier. The door works well, the size is good, and it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy. The only thing I personally didn’t like was the divider panel that comes with it. Since I got a smaller size crate, adding the divider inside takes up way too much space and doesn’t leave much room for my puppy to move around comfortably. Other than that, I’m really happy with it.As a first-time puppy owner, this has made crate training much smoother and I would definitely recommend it.Variation: Color: Black - Single DoorSet name: Medium (30"L)

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fit We purchased this 24-inch iCrate for our new miniature schnauzer, Sadie, and it has been perfect. It was easy to set up, feels sturdy and secure, and the divider panel is a nice feature as she grows. Sadie took to it quickly, and it’s been a great tool for both crate training and providing her with a comfortable space of her own. Excellent quality at a great price. Would definitely recommend for small breed puppies.Variation: Color: Black - Single DoorSet name: Small (24"L)

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality pet crate! Great quality product for the price. I expected it to take a lot longer to put together, but it all snapped together in 90 seconds and everything lined up perfectly. Dimensions were accurate as well, which is appreciated since we’re putting it in a cubby that just perfectly fits. It appears to be able to be broken down just as easily for transport. The bottom liner is a thick textured plastic that easily slides out for simple cleaning. Door latches easily, but not so easy that a dog could jostle it free.Only thing I don’t love is the logo sticker on the front/door given we purchased this unit to be more aesthetically pleasing than the old carrier we were using. It looks a bit cheap and likely won’t wear well over time. If they had to add a sticker with product info, wish they had put it on the bottom. Otherwise, it’s a great product!Variation: Color: Black - Single DoorSet name: Small (24"L)

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommend Very easy to put together. This is a nice, heavy crate and it’s easy for my medium size dog to turn around in. My dog can get very hyper but I don’t worry about her knocking the crate over. Door latches easily but the dog cannot get out on their own. Highly recommend.Variation: Color: Black - Single DoorSet name: Large (42"L)
