I used to have a timer for the outlet but the temperature would always fluctuate too much and he’d either be hiding in the damp substrate or up at the tallest point as close as he could good. The timer on this, while a bit tricky to figure out initially, has been super helpful in maintaining a consistent environment for him. The size of the lamp head is a bit deeper than my last so it leaves plenty of room for whatever bulb I want to put in it. It emits just enough heat to keep it at a stable 75 degrees near the top of the tank so he has a range of temperature options. Because I don’t have it fluctuating so much I believe it’ll last a lot longer than my last lamp. I’ve been using it for a few months now and it seems durable! It’s used to lineup appropriately with the infrared temperature and the ambient temperature. When I read the reviews previous to ordering, people were talking about complicated temp changes… I can’t really speak for that because I don’t have to change the temp but I do remember looking over it in the manual and I can see where they’re coming from.
