What is science-led nutrition?
Nutrition inspired by science — not trends — creates differences you can see, feel and trust. Our food scientists understand the combinations of nutrients and ingredients to help support lifelong health.
How much should I feed my pet?
Most Science Diet foods have a feeding guide on the package to help you determine the proper amount for your pet. It’s critical to your pet’s health that his or her physical condition be monitored regularly and the feeding amount adjusted as needed.
How can I tell if an unopened can or bag of cat or dog food is still good?
The datecode on our plastic bags is located on the left gusset, near the 4 or 5-digit SKU number, toward the bottom of the bag. The datecode on our medium and large bags will be located on the top of the bag, generally the front flap.
How should I store my cat or dog’s dry food?
Bags of dry Science Diet, Healthy Advantage and Prescription Diet cat or dog food should be stored in a cool, dry environment under 100°F (38°C).
The Hill’s Food, Shelter & Love program is proud to have helped over 15 million shelter pets and counting find new homes. Since 2002, we’ve supported shelter pets by ensuring they eat precisely balanced nutrition 365 days a year.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for the obese, compulsive cat I purchase this food specifically for an obese cat who lacks self control. With obese humans it’s always assumed they lack self control so it probably seems odd I’d say that about a cat and some may also believe it’s cruel as he’s a helpless animal. I say he lacks self control because I’ve watched his eating behavior. I’ve noticed most weight loss formulas are high in fiber which works off the human principle fiber is slow to empty the stomach thus the person will feel full longer thus eating less. I’ve also noticed the kibble is small. My cat when presented with small kibble will stand at his bowl eating until he vomits. The large kibble forces him to actually chew all of his food which allows his brain time to notify his stomach he is full. Both of these also work off a human weight loss principle as obese humans are encouraged to chew each bite of food numerous times usually around 25 which allows the human brain the 20 minutes it needs to understand they’re full. This formula isn’t specifically advertised for weight loss, however that’s what I’m trying to do. I can’t state he’s lost weight, however instead of gorging himself until he vomits he spends time chewing thus having him eat slow only take several bites like a cat would normally do. Although I do not know if he has actually lost weight I can state his behavior has changed so I’m hoping it’s translated to weight loss because he’s a beautiful spirit who doesn’t deserve the issues that come with obesity such as joint pain due to stress on the joints, heart disease which may create pain due to the heart trying to pump blood through vessels that are all blocked, etc. As for being an exclusively indoor cat he’s also at risk for increased hair balls. I do not see any issues with hairballs. Overall a very good cat food he appears to enjoy. When I open the shipping box he immediately knows it’s for him. He tries to patiently wait for me to open the bag, however at times he becomes impatient and let’s me know. He’s taken the shipping box which is very large and has created himself a bed by arranging the paper it came packaged with and stores his favorite toys in it. Even his coat is shiny and soft as previously it was greasy and coarse. Overall I highly recommend this product.Variation: Flavor Name: ChickenSize: 15.5 Pound (Pack of 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars The breakfast, lunch & dinner of champions! Over the course of my childhood and now adulthood I’ve had four different cats, and each of them has been fed exclusively via Science Diet. Originally it was what the vet recommend and we went with it. Over time as I’ve researched what to feed my cat I’ve been happy to conclude we’ve had it right since day one. It only occurred to me recently that maybe I could find it via Amazon Prime, and move one step closer to my goal of never making routine/mundane trips to the store again. Score! :)I like Science Diet because it works. It’s not fancy but I feel it’s a good quality food choice for my pets. I like that Hill’s has a line of foods that you can cycle through as your animals get older, to keep pace with the changing needs of their bodies. My cats (all short haired Siamese) have all been indoor pets, and we use the indoor pet formulations. According to one of my children it tastes a bit like crunchy rice. Yes, poor parenting award received when they accessed and tried the cat’s food. And yes, it is now in a location they can’t reach….. ! :)Once in a while I feel a bit “mean” not giving my cat more variety or many of the fun and gourmet wet cat food varieties available. However. My cat’s teeth and digestion system function best with a hard cat food like this, with a well thought formulated design to give him just what he needs and no extra crap/fillers. We have never had any issues with the food. Our cats have had long and healthy lives, and I do think their fur has a nice sheen that can be at least partly credited to a healthy well balanced cat food. Two thumbs up, thanks Hill’s!Variation: Flavor Name: ChickenSize: 7 Pound (Pack of 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Cat loves it and lost weight The previous owner was adamant that she stay only all natural food, but said her diet made her prone to bladder infections and vomiting hair balls more often than the average cat. We don’t have stairs in our house or other animals to play with like her previous home.We noticed after a year that she had put on about 1lb of extra weight. We helped her make a slow transition from her all natural feed to the science diet weight management feed for cats 8+. She loved the flavor and became picky only eating the science diet feed and leaving the natural feed in her bowl, we had to get creative to get her to finish the natural feed. After 6 months we saw her asking for more food than before and put on another .5lb. She did stop having constipation, bladder infections, and had far fewer hair balls. So we saw positives, but the extra weight was a concern.Next we put her on this science diet indoor cat feed with another introduction. She loved the flavor of the indoor feed as well so it was an easy transition. Within 6 months we saw her eating normally again, hairballs still low, no over eating & vomiting, no bladder infections, no constipation, and she became more active. To date she has lost the 1.5lbs she gained, self starts playtime, and has not had any health issues. The Velcro type close on the bag makes it very convenient to get in and out of everyday. We will continue this feed for her as long as it continues to fill her health needs.Variation: Flavor Name: ChickenSize: 15.5 Pound (Pack of 1)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, Great, Expensive We adopted two sibling adult cats. They didn’t tell us their history or why the shelter. This is the food they gave us in the adoption bags. Two cats, 2-lbs, lasted two weeks. We soon realized the cats are feral. They are always active, especially in the middle of the night. They immediately used the litterbox. But they were always eating. We ordered 2 bags (14 lbs.) of Hill’s in two months. They didn’t gain more body weight. Based on our experience, the feeding portions recommended by Hill’s are very accurate. We didn’t read it until later. Instead, we matched their portions to how much they ate in 24 hrs. So, two 8-lb cats consume 1-lb/week of Hill’s Science Diet, at $5/lb. We decided to do better. We switched to a higher-protein brand in a much larger bag. This dropped the price to less than $3/lb. And just like dogs, we slowly switched their food. We know all dog foods are not the same for all dogs. The increased protein causes our cats to eat less or maybe slower. Today, they are the same weight, but leaner with shinier coats. After four months with love, patience, and a very good water bottle sprayer, we’re enjoying more house-training. The shelter got the food right with Hill’s. But we wanted more affordable cat food, that’s just as good or better. We found it! Price is why this cat food is 4-stars.Variation: Flavor Name: ChickenSize: 7 Pound (Pack of 1)

5.0 out of 5 stars Reliable food no fillers just good food You don’t have to believe me when I tell you, I have been feeding my cats Science Diet for the last 30 years. It used to be bigger in size, but I think the formula has gotten better but they have eaten nothing but the dry cat food and now I’m on the chicken, but I’ll tell you what I’ve never had a problem.Variation: Flavor Name: ChickenSize: 7 Pound (Pack of 1)
