5.0 out of 5 stars Compact, quiet, and much more polished than cheaper automatic boxes This is my fourth automatic litter box, and setup was about as easy as it could possibly be. I basically just removed the tape holding everything together for shipping, plugged it in, and set up the app.I have one fairly large cat using it, currently weighing in at a hefty 17 pounds. This box is smaller than my other Whisker litter box, so it takes up less space, but the tradeoff is a smaller waste bin. You can see the comparison side-by-side with my other Whisker Litter-Box 4 in my pics. The EVO is the clean one. With my cat, I get around two to three days before it needs to be emptied. He is a large cat with large pee clumps to match, so results will probably vary.It does not require special bags. The cheap compatible bags from Amazon work perfectly fine. The Whisker-branded bags are noticeably thicker and nicer, but they are definitely not required. The bundle also includes plenty of bags and supplies to get started. You just need litter.Build quality feels solid. The liner that holds the litter is made from a thick material and has a weight in the center that drops down during the cycle to help break loose any litter stuck to it. It is also extremely quiet. Most of the time, I cannot even tell it is running when it cycles.The app has been reliable and lets me know when the waste bin is full. It also tracks my cat’s weight, which is a nice extra feature.My biggest disappointment is that this model does not support the litter hopper attachment. I use that on my more expensive Whisker box, and it is very convenient. If I were replacing all of my litter boxes, I would probably spend the extra money for the larger waste bin and litter hopper support so I could go longer between emptying the waste and refilling the litter. This one does come with a much nicer litter mat to sit in front of the box than my pricier Whisker litter-box 4.That said, if space were limited, this would easily be my choice. It feels much more polished than the super-cheap automatic litter boxes. My cheap one regularly fails to cycle when it should or does not reset correctly after being emptied. I would use about 2- bags of Pretty Litter a month and currently am using just 1. The app allows you to change your cycle time so the smell is always contained! I could review this by focusing only on the basics like noise level, odor control, size, and maintenance, but those all work the way I would expect for a premium automatic litter box. It controls odor very well, it is plenty large enough for my two cats, and the cleaning cycle is quiet enough that I barely notice it. Emptying the drawer is also simple: pull it out, remove the bag, replace it, and move on.The real value for me is the day-to-day life improvement. Before using a Litter-Robot, I had to scoop the litter box constantly, and if I got behind, the box would stink and my cats would be unhappy. That could lead to accidents outside the box, which meant even more cleaning and frustration.After about two months of using this, it has been absolutely phenomenal. The litter area stays clean automatically, my cats have a consistently clean place to go, and I do not have to think about scooping every day. It removes one of the worst recurring pet chores from my routine.This is expensive, but for me, the convenience and peace of mind make it worth it. Of everything I have bought recently, this is one of the purchases that has made the biggest actual difference in my daily life. Our first machine refused to acknowledge either of our phones were within a mile of it, though we literally were holding the phone six inches, twelve inches, no inches, two feet away from it, and even the other room. One phone was Apple, the other Samsung. All other items are able to connect to both phones, no problem.The second unit was not that accepting of our phones either. We tried all the distances and holding the buttons down for the prescribed time then added, then doubled the times.Whiskers Support easily replaced the unit. It seemed like they accepted the issue.The second unit did work. Eventually.The larger question is why do we need the app? I don’t necessarily need to be told when a cat uses the box. I understand that all things need an app, except my sketchers, (don’t do it, sketchers), but in this case the app caused more difficulty than it could ever provide reparations for. At one point, not knowing a stranger had entered the room, I used ten swear words in a row without repeating any of them. Most people say, “Oh, hello!”Unboxing of both of these units was something of a nightmare. It did not require assembly and it was easy to see why. The top half is fairly fragile and can’t be used as a way of moving it. Generally not touching it seems best. It had to be packed in the giant box. The first one arrived in a giant box that was packed in another giant box that took two recycling cycles to get out. It is also heavy. The second time the package arrived in its own packaging and I knew better than to try to carry it into the house. The lady on the video lifts significantly higher weights than I do because of how smoothly she was able to lift it out. Even getting it up two sets of two steps was special. I then involved a wagon to get it to the far sun room where it was destined to be.I am asked to discuss durability. I don’t have any idea, because no cat has used this box. I put it next to their other litter box that has less and less cat litter available in it, but they have not cat-ipulated. I also have had no difficulty cleaning it.It looks much nicer than their old kitty litter box and it smells much better, too!I can’t speak to its value. At the moment it is hiding the old litter box.
